Wendy Pegahmagabow, longtime executive director of the Harvest Share Community Food Programs, is retiring.
She has lead the Parry Sound Food Bank for the past decade, taking over in 2016. According to Board Chair George Ashford, when Pegahmagabow began her tenure, Harvest Share was nearly on the verge of closing its doors. Today, the registered charity in great shape operationally, financially stable and efficiently serving hundreds of families each month.
“Wendy’s leadership has always been rooted in a deep commitment to social justice and food security as a fundamental human right and she championed programs that addressed these root causes while dismantling the stigma surrounding food bank use,” said Ashford, in a statement on social media.
“She expanded Harvest Share beyond emergency food distribution, developing community food programs, emphasizing dignity and empowerment and partnered with Indigenous communities and advocacy groups to address food insecurity holistically.”
In her retirement, Pegahmagabow said she plans to spend more time with family, and focus on a new creative venture – Pegahmagabow Crafts – a shop where she will sell handmade crafts and artistic creations.
Details on who will succeed Pegahmagabow as executive director has yet to be announced.
