Parry Sound community rallying to show support for Canadore College

A community rally is being held on June 8 in an attempt to keep Canadore College in Parry Sound.

Last month, Canadore College officials announced their intentions to wind down the local campus, citing lower enrollment and increased financial pressures.

“These are not decisions we make lightly,” says College President Dr. Sandra Efu. “They are necessary to ensure we are focusing our resources where they can have the greatest impact and to ensure Canadore remains strong, sustainable, and responsive to student and labour market needs into the future.”

Since the announcement on May 12, many in the community have pushed back and voiced their support for keeping the local campus, including Parry Sound Town Council and the Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce.

On Monday, June 8, residents are invited to a rally at the Canadore College campus, at 1 College Drive, at 11:45 a.m. to show support for keeping Canadore in Parry Sound.

Attendees are encourage to bring a sign, and community spirit.
