Ontario investing $921,000 to repair roads, bridges across West Parry Sound

The Ontario government is investing more than $921,000 to support six infrastructure projects across the West Parry Sound District.

The funding, provided through the Northern Ontario Resource Development Support (NORDS) Fund, will help area municipalities continue to repair local roads and bridges.

“Our government is committed to supporting the growth of our northern and rural communities,” said Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka. “This fund helps northern municipalities strengthen local infrastructure and invest in their future. I’m pleased to see our government keeping NORDS in place beyond the 2025-26 fiscal year and making it annual funding.”

The local funding allocations are as follows:

  • Carling – $114,630 – Pengally Bay Road improvements
  • McDougall – $120,617 – Bunny Trail repairs and rehabilitation
  • Parry Sound – $163,788 – Continued rehabilitation of Bowes, Joseph and Church streets, and the Wood, Isabella Street extension
  • Seguin – $232,098 – Oaslter Park Drive rehabilitation
  • The Archipelago – $170,659 – North Shore Road rehabilitation
  • Whitestone – $119,391 – Wahwashkesh, Edgewood and East Townline Road

According to provincial officials the funding is part of a $15 million ongoing investment to help 144 municipalities across northern Ontario improve and upgrade vital infrastructure such as roads and bridges, access new economic opportunities through resource development, and mitigate the impacts of resource development on local infrastructure.

“Ontario’s northern communities are an essential part of our province,” said George Pirie, Minister of Northern Economic Development and Growth. “Making NORDS and ongoing fund means northern municipalities can plan, invest with confidence and maintain the critical infrastructure that resource development operations rely on, while ensuring the benefits are shared close to home.”
