‘Ask me, I live here’ campaign returns to Parry Sound

An old community ambassador campaign, which ran in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, has been brought back by the Parry Sound Area Chamber of Commerce.

The ‘Ask Me, I live here’ campaign, which was launched four decades ago by the Chamber, Moose FM and the Parry Sound North Star, has returned ahead of the Victoria Day long weekend.

According to Chamber Executive Director Chris McDonald, the campaign was to help tourists by letting them know who to talk to if they had a question about the town.

“It was a way for tourists and travelers to identify people who are local, and ask them for recommendations on where to stay, where to eat, where to shop, fun things to do in the area. That sort of thing.”

McDonald said pictures of the old campaign started circulating online recently, and that those photos received significant public interest and generated a lot of conversation.

“There was interest to revive it, so we are bringing it back,” he said, noting that the Chamber has ordered a bunch of car decals and buttons which say ‘Ask me, I live here.’

Anyone interested in a decal or button can email McDonald at psachamber@gmail.com or contact the Chamber office at 705-746-4213. Decals and buttons will also be available to the Information Kiosk at the Town Dock.
