West Parry Sound Health Centre still committed to acquiring MRI

The West Parry Sound Health Centre remains committed to acquiring a MRI machine.

That’s according to a recent letter hospital officials sent the Town of Parry Sound.

“The MRI application has been championed and endorsed by WPSHC’s Chief of Medical Staff, President of the Medical Staff Organization, and the Chiefs of Surgery, Internal Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Child-Maternal Program, Ambulatory Care, and Hospitalists,” states the letter.

“We firmly believe that an MRI located within the WPSHC will best address the urgent and elective needs of the patients in our community in the safest, most efficient and highly integrated manner.”

Officials say the MRI would be located within the Medical Imaging Department, next to the CT scanner.

Ontario Health North East endorsed the local hospital’s plans in October. They are now awaiting final approval by the Ontario Health Capital Branch, which would include funding that will allow an MRI to operate 24/7.

Local officials envision an MRI becoming operational within 12 to 18 months of Ministry approval.
