Hydro One: protect your home against flooding

With active flood warnings in our area and rain in the forecast for the coming days, Hydro One is urging residents to take steps to prepare for a flood.

Teri French, the company’s Executive Vice President of Operations and Customer Service, says her team is keeping a close eye on water levels in affected communities.

“We care deeply about our communities and recognize the devastating affect flooding can have on our lives,” French says. “We will always be there for our customers during challenging times.”

Officials say people living in flood-prone areas should make sure their eavestroughs, downspouts and gutters are clear, so water can move through them safely.

They add you should also check your home’s foundation for any cracks that need to be repaired, and make sure your sump pump is working properly.

Hydro One also recommends having a generator or other backup power source on standby along with an emergency kit ready with food and water for your family, a first aid kit, a battery-powered radio and other important emergency supplies.

You can find more advice for preparing for floods on Hydro One’s website.
