Sundridge & District Medical Centre getting nearly $750K to support infrastructure

The Sundridge and District Medical Centre is getting just under $745,000 in provincial funding to improve infrastructure.

The funding is part of an over $865,000 investment through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation announced by Graydon Smith, MPP for Parry Sound-Muskoka, over the weekend.

Smith says the funds will help enhance operational efficiencies for the medical centre which serves the residents of Strong and Joly as well.

He says the money will also serve to assist the village in meeting current accessibility, health and safety standards, and prolonging the life of the facility.

Justine Leveque, Mayor of Sundridge, says this funding will not only help to alleviate some of the rehabilitation cost burden, but it also ensures the facility is appealing in its physician recruitment efforts.

“Geographically, Sundridge, Strong and Joly are 35 minutes to an hour away from other hospitals and health care centres. We are so fortunate to be able to offer our community a medical centre in the heart of Sundridge that alleviates some of the burdens of travelling for services and keeps health care local for our residents,” Leveque says.

In addition, Smith says $121,320 is on the way to Tim Bryson Forestry Services to hike up production capacity by buying equipment and upgrading facilities.
