Carling FD respond to Sunday afternoon fire in Bayview area

A fire broke out Sunday (Dec. 18) around 2 PM at a house in Carling Township’s Bayview area.

Gord Harrison, Carling  Fire Department’s Fire Chief, says the fire started in the garage and then spread to the main building. He says the garage was a total loss and estimates around 50 per cent of the main building was consumed by fire.

“So [the Fire Department] was called around … mid-afternoon, probably around 2:30 PM or so, and we stopped operations there around 10:30 last night. We’ve been back again a few times for hotspots [at the Bayview location], and we are keeping an eye on the building right now,” Harrison says.

Harrison says no injuries were reported, adding that the homeowner and their pets were all able to get out of the building safely. He says at this point the cause for the fire is undetermined.

“Everybody really needs to be checking their smoke alarms and to be extra careful around the Christmas season, especially with candles and a lot more electric devices operated than usual, so just be careful,” Harrison says.
