In Memoriam: Hughie O’Neill

HUGHIE O’NEILL

HUBERT ROY O’NEILL, 96, of Parry Sound, Ontario, passed away peacefully with his daughter Joanne by his side, at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, on Saturday, July 30th, 2022. Hughie rose to Heaven to be reunited with his beautiful lady, Margaret, his wife of 70 years. Hughie was a butcher by trade but his two passions in life were gardening and wood working. He had a leprechaun smile, a twinkle in his eye, and an awesome sense of humour. He liked camping, fishing, and a good “hootenanny” with family and friends

.As the last remaining member of the O’Neill clan of Downeyville he was predeceased by his siblings: Joseph, Paul, Marie, Carmella, Gerald, Theresa, Ruth, Parnell, Bernadine, Margaret, Edward, and Roseanne. Hughie’s three children, Dan (Lorie), Joanne Higgins (Tom), and Greg (Debra) will continue to honour Hughie’s life. Loving Papa of: Meagan (Phil), Kailey (Craig) and Ryan; Adam (Elizabeth), Gillian Sahanatien (Sheldon), Jordan (Brittlee) and the late Rachel and Aaron (Jennifer); Darren (Laura), and Tyler. “Papa the Great” of Rachel and Presley; Georgia; Cecilia and Louis; Alex, Luis and Liam. Survived by his sister-in-law Theresa Campbell. Fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, many relatives, and friends.

A Funeral Mass for Hughie is planned for Thursday, August 4th at 1:30 P.M. at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, with a visitation at the Logan Funeral Home (705-746-5855), 81 James Street, Parry Sound, prior to the Mass from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.

Interment to follow at Sylvan Acres Cemetery.

Hughie’s family is thankful and appreciative of the loving care he received from the medical staff at the West Parry Sound Health Centre, in particular Dr. Witt and the entire Palliative Care Team, and from the Gardens of Parry Sound. A special thank you to Arlene Hicks who provided such loving care to Hughie over the last three years.
