Ribbon-cutting ceremony marks new breakwall and replacement of Dock C

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the Big Sound Marina on Saturday (July 2nd) marking the completion of the breakwall and replacement of Dock C.

The project creates a fully functional and fully accessible breakwall that also serves as a walking trail into Parry Sound Harbour. The project was a conversion of the old floating structure.

George Stivrins of Massasauga Management, joined by Mayor Jamie McGarvey and council members Paul Borneman, Roger Burden and Doug McCann, gave credit to the mayor and council for their foresight to acquire full ownership of the Big Sound Marina.

He also credited town staff, led by Dave Thompson, who worked for years on the project accessing a million dollars from Small Craft Harbours and coordinating the local expertise to complete the project.

Stivrins also acknowledged the contribution of Tatham Engineering Design Group and local contractors and builders, Kropf Industrial, Schlager Construction, Lynx Electrical and Plumbit plumbing Contractors.

Funding for the project was green-lit in the fall of 2020.
