The West Pary Sound region’s Fire Danger rating just went up to high.
Gord Harrison, West Parry Sound’s Fire Coordinator says the region had a lot of dry weather lately, which combined with winds always increases the fire danger rating.
“For most of us, [that means] we don’t issue fire permits anymore and we have a campfires only policy. However, every municipality is different and before burning you should check with your local municipality just to be sure. I believe Henvey Inlet has gone to extreme. They’ve had a slightly different weather pattern up there than we’ve had and they are a lot dryer so they’re not allowing any campfires at this point,” he says.
Harrison says the forecast is not showing much rain in the next week, so this might carry right through the long weekend.
Most important, he says, is just to be careful with fire, make sure it’s out when you are done and keep your fires small if you have to have one.
