PS Rotary club’s “Space for Ukraine” site is helping find housing for arriving Ukrainian families

The local Rotary Club is making a public appeal to members of the Parry Sound community to help with the housing of incoming Ukranian families fleeing the war.

In a release shared Thursday (April 29), the Rotary Club of Parry Sound says families are starting to confirm their arrival in mid-May, prompting community members who are trying to help to assure they have places to live.

The club set up a website, parrysound.ca/housing or seguin.ca/housing, to allow anyone to input information. Called Spaces for Ukraine, the site allows people to offer spaces that they have within their homes or free-standing homes/apartments for free or with rent. The club says accommodation options can be temporary or permanent adding that information regarding these offers is used by the Housing Committee only and is not made public.

The site, made by The West Parry Sound Geography Network, also has a link to the Rotary club’s Ukraine to West Parry Sound Trust which is raising funds to offer fleeing Ukrainians a Safe Haven in Parry Sound. The money raised, over $2,000 by April 29, will be used locally to support housing, food, and other essentials.

On the Trust’s webpage, the club mentions that they are also accepting furniture donations Wednesdays, from 3 – 6 pm at the CN Station – 1 on Station Road.
