2021 Order of Parry Sound given to Jason Predie

Local paramedic/firefighter Jason Predie is the recipient of the 2021 Order of Parry Sound.

A long-time District of Parry Sound EMS Paramedic and volunteer firefighter with the Parry Sound Fire Department, Predie was presented the order by Mayor Jamie McGarvey in council this week.

“His time away from work is all about helping others. It is largely due to his deep care of others, especially the less fortunate, that Jason was nominated and is receiving the 2021 Order of Parry Sound,” McGarvey said.

In addition, the Mayor adds Predie has been a driving force at the Parry Sound District EMS food drive and the annual Parry Sound District EMS toy drive since 2006.

“He was instrumental in mobilising friends, co-workers and members of the community to raise well over $210,000 in donations to food drives and toy drives benefiting many children to make sure every child has  an opportunity to experience the magic of Christmas morning,” McGarvey said.

Predie thanked council members, his coworkers and everyone who placed their support in him for the award.

“I’ll take credit for organizing a lot of the events that we put on over the years but I have to give a lot of praise to my co-workers, the other medics and dispatchers that have helped out over the years,” he said.

Predie said he couldn’t do this by himself adding that he’s lived in this town his whole life and that it amazes him how well the community comes together to help the less fortunate.

Now in its 21st year, Predie joins the ranks of 24 previous Order of Parry Sound recipients, all who have aspired to the Order’s motto “They Desire a Better Community”
