Seguin Public Libraries to drop late fees starting next month

If it’s taking too long to read that book you borrowed from Seguin Public Libraries, don’t worry.

The library board is waiving late fees for overdue items, effective Feb. 1, after making the decision to eliminate the fees in December.

Officials say the move is in step with libraries across North America aiming to make services more equitable and accessible.

The library says existing late fees have also been waived under this new policy and that most library items will now be checked out for a three-week time period. That period can be renewed for another three weeks, with a maximum of two renewals, unless an item has been requested by another user.

Officials say users will be billed for the replacement costs of items that are lost or not returned.
