Council accepts bids for Waubuno boat launch & Fitness trail bridge projects

Parry Sound Town Council has greenlit two much-awaited infrastructure projects.

The replacement of the Waubuno boat launch dock system and the Fitness Trail pedestrian bridge’s repairs are officially underway.

Town officials say they went with the lower out of two bids received for the bridge repairs, choosing Adams Brothers Construction’s $48,210 bid.

Staff say the final cost is over budget but still acceptable in light of the higher price of materials this year due to the pandemic.

The repairs will consist of replacing the retaining wall on the south end of the bridge that is rotted out and all rotted out deck and edge boards on the deck of the bridge.

As for the boat launch, Kropf Industrial Inc. got the bid for the Waubuno boat launch project by being the only bid that met all of the required specifications. The project is set to wrap up before the May 24 Victoria Day weekend.

According to the meeting minutes, the final cost for the dock system replacement was about $6,000 under budget, and staff suggested using the remaining budget to compensate for the fitness trail pedestrian bridge repair being over budget.
