Nearly $2M worth of cannabis seized on High Street

A major weed bust at a commercial building on High Street in Burk’s Falls yielded some $1.7 million worth of cannabis.

The OPP’s Almaguin Highlands Community Street Crime Unit says officers executed a Cannabis Act search warrant early Wednesday seizing over 1,700 plants.

They were joined by the Provincial Joint Force Cannabis Enforcement Team, Northeast Region Community Street Crime Unit and the Sudbury Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau.

Police then arrested and charged two Toronto locals, one 23 years old and the other 34, with two cannabis-related charges.

One charge is for cultivating and harvesting any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling-house and one for possession for the purpose of distributing.

Both accused were released from police custody and are scheduled to appear in a Sundridge court on November 25th.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
