Parry Sound has been picked as one of the recipients of the Ontario Minor Hockey Association’s (OMHA) new Player Assist Program.

The program, sponsored by Egg Farmers of Ontario, eliminates the cost of equipment for 350 hockey families with children seven and under across ten minor hockey associations.

The equipment provided includes skates, shin pads, pants, shoulder pads, elbow pads, neck guards and helmets.

The local hockey associations will keep all equipment at the end of hockey season to loan to players in following years.

The OMHA says it’s working with each of the ten associations on delivering programming for the recipients to ensure a positive first experience.

Each association will be hosting an Initiation Program festival as well as parent information sessions throughout the season.
