44th Federal Election; incumbent Scott Aitchison MP-elect for Parry Sound-Muskoka

Vista Radio is calling a Conservative win in Parry Sound-Muskoka for incumbent MP Scott Aitchison.

With 233 of the 234 polls in the riding reporting, he has nearly half of the vote.

As of Elections Canada’s update at 1:18 A-M today, Aitchison is in first with 47.7 percent of the vote. He says he’s already hard at work.

“It (the work) started this morning (by) calling some of my liberal colleagues that will be forming the government and talking about some of the issues that we need to address. So, it starts right away,” Aitchison tells the My Parry Sound Now Newsroom on Tuesday.

Liberal candidate Jovanie Nicoyishakiye comes second with 21.5 percent, the NDP’s Heather Hay is third with 16.9 percent.

People across Parry Sound-Muskoka and the country voted on Monday. Here is a look at the local numbers.

Please note, these results are not final. Final results will not be available until mail-in ballots are certified and counted. That process does not begin until Tuesday, September 21st. Elections Canada reports that the process may take two to five days.

  1. Conservative Party of Canada – Incumbent – Scott Aitchison –  24,906 votes, 47.7%
  2. Liberal Party of Canada – Jovanie Nicoyashikaye –  11,226 votes, 21.5%
  3. The National Democratic Party of Canada (NDP)Heather Hay –  8,849 votes, 16.9%

The People’s Party of Canada (PPC) – James Tole –  4,026 votes, 7.7%

The Green Party of Canada – Marc Mantha –  2,907 votes, 5.6%

Independent – Daniel Predie Jr. – 200 votes, 0.4%

The National Citizen’s Alliance (NCA) – James Fawcett – 95 votes, 0.2%

Polling stations are now closed across Canada. The Liberal Party will form a minority government.

As of 11:23 pm Monday night the national elected results are as follows;

  • Liberal Party: 93 elected (leading 65)
  • Conservatives: 95 elected (leading 25)
  • Bloc Quebecois: 26 elected (leading 6)
  • NDP: 12 (leading 17)
  • Green Party: 0 (leading 2)
  • People’s Party of Canada: 0 (0 leading)

To form a majority government one party must win at least 170 seats. Mail-in ballots will not begin to be counted until Tuesday, no results are final until that process has ended.
