Two people dead after aircraft crash near Sundridge South River Airpark

On Monday, September 20th, the OPP’s Almaguin Highlands Detachment sent a release confirming the names of the occupants of the aircraft.

The two occupants inside the aircraft that died as a result of the crash have been identified as 73-year-old Ottawa-local Susan Begg and 45-year-old Niagara-local Dewi Livingstone.

The OPP was assisted in the investigation by Canadian Forces Base Trenton Search and Rescue, South River/Machar Fire Department, Sundridge/Strong/Joly Fire Department, Parry Sound Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and members of the public.

The Almaguin Highlands Detachment Criminal Investigation Unit of the OPP continues the investigation along with the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB).

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was after being airlifted to hospital after the airplane they were piloting crashed near the Sundridge South River Airpark.

Officers with the Almaguin Highlands OPP detachment were called to the crash site around 3 PM on Thursday. “A search was conducted for the aircraft, which was eventually located several hundred meters into the bush off of Airport Road,” Constable Louise Maki says.

No other details were provided about the crash.

Maki says the Transportation Safety Board of Canada and officers from the Almaguin detachment are involved in the investigation, adding details will be released as they become available.
