ISC’s proposed Reduced Operating Schedule on Wasauksing Swing Bridge for 2021

Indigenous Services Canada gave official notice on Thursday that an application was sent to Transport Canada to approve life-span maintenance work on the Wasauksing Swing Bridge.

ISC proposed continuing the previous year’s schedule during the 2021 Navigation Season.

Here is 2020’s schedule that would be taking effect June 15th if approved;

Mid-April to June 14th:

The bridge will open every second hour at the top of the hour from 7 AM to 7 PM daily at 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM,  1:15 PM, 3 PM, 5 PM, and 7 PM.

June 15th to August 31st

The bridge will open every second hour at the top of the hour from 7 AM to 9 PM daily at 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM, 1:15 PM, 3 PM, 5 PM, 7 PM, and 9 PM.

September 1st to late November

The bridge will open every second hour at the top of the hour from 7 AM to 7 PM daily at 7 AM, 9 AM, 11 AM,  1:15 PM, 3 PM, 5 PM, and 7 PM.

The only exception for all three periods is the seasonal service by the Island Queen Cruise which gets an off-hour opening during the navigation season.

The bridge will not open to navigation in the event of a land-based emergency.

The bridge will open on demand for any water-based emergencies when wind speed is 30 km/hr or less.

In the event of a land-based emergency and water-based emergency occurring at the same time, ISC is authorized to address the land-based emergency first and then open the bridge to accommodate the water-based emergency.
