Council agrees to early ice removal for Bobby Orr Community Centre

Staff at the Bobby Orr Community Centre will be removing the ice earlier than usual from the centre to save up on costs.

Parry Sound’s Town Council agreed that if the provincial state of emergency is lifted before February 20th and the ice time rental demand stays the same the ice will be reinstalled promptly unless any other directives from the province or the health unit are issued.

Tuesday’s meeting saw the council agree that the nearly $9,875 in energy bills to keep the ice in for the remainder of the season was not worth it.

They also raised the issue that if the lockdown is extended or ice rentals do not resume at previous levels, the cost of leaving the ice in will keep on getting higher.
