Health Unit Launches 2020 Parenting Campaign To Assists With Child Development

Parents are being reminded of the key role they play in their children’s development.

The 2020 Parenting Campaign has been relaunched by the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit in an effort to remind parents of the importance of helping your child work through their emotions.

Public Health Nurse with the Health Unit Doris Chartrand says in order to be there for your kids – it’s also important to make time to take care of yourself.

“When children do feel secure, safe and loved, they are able to grow and develop to their full potential and really thrive. So parents play a key role in supporting their children’s development. So, what we want with this campaign is to remind parents to listen, respond and connect.”

Chartrand adds that children thrive when their social and emotional needs are met through early relationships.

She says when the time comes and your child needs you, you should make yourself available to them and listen to their concerns.

“Mothers, fathers, parents, step-parents, grandparents, teachers – as a community we really have a huge role to play to ensure that every child and family thrives and lives up to their full potential. Even during this time of a pandemic.”

Chartrand notes by letting your children play and letting them be kids – they will feel important and supported, which helps them develop skills to get through difficult situations.
