Council Gives the green light to “Gardens” expansion

The Gardens of Parry Sound have been given the green light for its proposed expansion that will add a 40 to 60-unit apartment building next to the existing Retirement building.

Representative for Gardens Retirement Developments Bill Mardimae said that it is hoped that the new structure would be completed in one or two years.

He also noted that they are in discussions with Canadore College about the possibility of combining accommodations for students as well as seniors.

In addressing the issue of parking spaces and in particular the issue of the number of current accessible parking spaces at the “Gardens” Mardimae they would double the ratio of spots per unit from point five (.5) to 1 per unit and that they would double the number of accessible spots for the new structure.

A proposed amendment to the bylaw that would have required that 10 percent of spaces be accessible was defeated and the bylaw was passed in its original wording.
