Freezing Rain Warning Issued

Environment Canada has issued a freezing rain warning for our region.

Freezing rain is expected later today into Monday.

Freezing rain is expected to develop this afternoon or evening. The freezing rain may taper off briefly tonight but will redevelop early Monday and continue through the day. The freezing rain will transition to snow later Monday afternoon or evening.

Ice accretion or build-up of 5 to 10 mm is possible and widespread power outages are possible. Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate this afternoon and remain poor into Monday.

Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery.

The local forecast as issued at 11:00 a.m. Sunday, December 29th:

Today Periods of freezing rain. Wind becoming east 20 km/h gusting to 40 this afternoon. High zero.
Tonight Periods of freezing rain. Wind east 30 km/h gusting to 50. Low minus 2. Wind chill minus 9 overnight.
Monday Periods of freezing rain or rain ending near noon then cloudy with 60 percent chance of rain showers or flurries. Wind southeast 30 km/h gusting to 50. High plus 2. UV index 1 or low.
