Groups to honour women who’ve died to gender violence

PARRY SOUND, ON-Parry Sound will be remembering the women who have fallen victim to gender-based violence.

On December 6th, The Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services, Muskoka YWCA and the Muskoka Women’s Shelter and Services will be hosting Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women ceremony at the Mary St. Centre (24 Mary St, Parry Sound) between 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

In an interview with the MyParrySound.com newsroom, Suzanne Smoke, the Area Outreach Coordinator for the Muskoka Parry Sound Sexual Assault Services said that she and the other members of the organization will be sure to honour the memories of the women who have died because of gender violence. “I will be performing on my native drums and there will also be a moment of silence,” said Smoke.

This event falls in the middle of the 16-day campaign that Minister for Women and Gender Equality and Rural Economic Development Maryam Monsef declared on International Elimination of Violence Against Women Day on November 25th.
