Adventure Academy opens its doors

PARRY SOUND, ON-Parry Sound has a new preschool.

After opening on October 21st, Adventure Academy has almost reached its maximum capacity.

In an interview with the MyParrySoundNow.com newsroom, owner/director Sonya McEwen said she initially taught secondary school in Calgary where she met her husband.

They then moved to Parry Sound where she became a supply teacher. After the birth of her daughter, McEwen took time off and a friend suggested that she open her own daycare.

The preschool takes care of children two and a half years-old till the age of five and the after school program will look after children till the age of seven.

McEwen said the academy operates a Monday to Friday schedule from 7:45 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“We have a more structured program compared to other childcare centers,” said McEwen.

She went on to describe that even though they have a structured plan for daily activities, they are more than capable of being flexible.

“We watch for what the children are interested in, if they are curious about trains, then we incorporate that into our program,” said McEwen.

During the day, McEwen said they have a chef that comes in with a set menu and cooks for the children and the food operates on a four-week schedule.

McEwen says that they try to be diverse so that the children do not get tired of eating the same thing. One example that McEwen listed is chicken quesadillas with fruit and vegetables.

“We sometimes get parents saying that the children eat better than them,” said McEwen.

The spots are filling up fast and the academy charges $55.00 per day for the preschool and $17.00 for the after school program.

For those interested in signing up their children, you can call the adventure academy at 705-746-6333.
