Naming committee setup for new Parry Sound Elementary School

A school naming committee has been formed to help chose a name for the new elementary school being built in Parry Sound.  The committee is seeking the input from members of the Parry Sound community, as well as seeking direct input from students, parent councils and staff.  From the feedback received, the committee will bring a recommendation of up to three names forward for the Board for consideration and Near North District School Board Trustees, will approve the official name of the new school.  Submissions should include reasoning for the name, background or history of the suggested name, and the submitter’s name, address and telephone number.  Individuals or groups are invited to help name the new school in accordance with the following guidelines:

 The name of street on which the school is located;

 A feature of the district which the school serves;

 An historical name that once applied to the area;

 The name of a person (now deceased) whom is recognized as having made a significant contribution to the community, the province, Canada or internationally, (note: permission from the person or person’s family must be obtained); and/or

 Wording that is supportive of the Board’s mission and vision and meets the best interests of the schools’ students.

Submissions should be sent in writing by November 21, 2014 to the attention of The New Parry Sound School Naming Committee, c/o Parry Sound Resource Centre, 111B Isabella Street, Parry Sound, Ontario, P2A 1N2. Submissions can be sent by email to [email protected] or by fax to 705-746-7367.
