Beaver Creek lockdown ended

GRAVENHURST, ON- The prison in Gravenhurst will be open for visitors again tomorrow.

According to an announcement from the Beaver Creek Institution, the lockdown that was put in place on Monday following a prisoner assault has been ended after an “exceptional search”.

The medium-security prison said a “number” of contraband and unauthorized items were found during the search.

“The Correctional Service Canada (CSC) is strengthening measures to prevent the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” read the announcement.

“CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to have contraband brought into correctional institutions.”

Visits to the prison will resume tomorrow.
