COTTAGE COUNTRY, ON- The last of the leaves are turning throughout our region in the next few weeks.
According to multiple “fall colours” reports, from both the province and tourism information sources, the prime leaf-viewing time is either at the peak or nearly passed, from Parry Sound to the Haliburton Highlands.
Huntsville and Lake of Bays is past the peak, with a 40 per cent leaf fall, while Bracebridge and Gravenhurst are both sitting at three quarters of the trees coloured. Just over half of the foliage in the Georgian Bay area has turned as well.
According to 400Eleven.com, many areas in Algonquin Park are showing excellent colour, with most maple crowns changing to orange and red. However, the area has had wind and rainstorms, so crowns of many trees are bare.
The provincial parks fall colour map states 100 per cent of Algonquin has changed, with 80 per cent leaf fall. Tamaracks are golden yellow, along with yellow aspen and poplar.
The Haliburton Highlands has had a 95 per cent change, with predominant colours being bright orange and yellow.
