Parry Sound Rotary Club raising funds for polio vaccines

PARRY SOUND, ON- The Rotary Club in Parry Sound will be taking action on World Polio Day.

Club spokesperson Tom Traversy recently announced a fundraising event this Thursday at the local Sobeys, running from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. He’s asking the community to come out and donate towards the eradication of the paralytic disease.

Worldwide, polio cases have dropped more by 99.9 per cent from 350,000 in 1988 to 33 in 2018, with the last set of cases occurring in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Rotary International remains committed to seeing all the cases gone.

The local Rotary chapter in Parry Sound is aiming to contribute to the funds to get rid of the disease, and have raised more than $20,000 towards that goal in the last 14 year.s

Anyone looking to donate can head to the Parry Sound Sobeys this Thursday.
