Teens needed to make a health IMPACT in Parry Sound

PARRY SOUND, ON – Youth in the area are being asked to help the health unit understand what issues are important to teens.

IMPACT is a program that runs in Parry Sound from October to June each year. According to the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit (NBPSDHU), the goal is to get input from 13 to 18-year-olds.

Volunteers are currently needed and the health unit said it provides a supportive and inclusive environment. IMPACT also provides the opportunity to work with local organizations and learn a new skillset.

Meetings are held at the health unit building in Parry Sound once a week from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Some may be longer than two hours during orientation training or when an upcoming event date gets closer.

The NBPSDHU said aside from being a great way for students to complete their volunteer hours, they will also be giving back to the community and contribute to improving health for other youth.

Environmental, sexual, mental health and substance abuse are just some of the topics volunteers can work on.

The health unit added it can provide volunteers with transportation vouchers to get to and from the weekly meetings.

The health unit will be visiting schools to recruit students, but anyone interested can fill the youth volunteer application form.

More information can be found on the IMPACT website.
