New charge added in Perry Township death

SUNDRIDGE, ON- The man charged after the death of Heidi Lynn Slessor is facing an additional charge.

Slessor, a 34-year-old from Armour Township, passed away on July 15th.

Emergency services and police had responded to a home along Deer Lake Road in Emsdale around 8:40 p.m. that evening, to a report of a woman being struck by a vehicle.

26-year-old Thomas Stevens, from Perry Township, is facing charges of impaired operation causing death and operation of a motor vehicle causing death, as well as refusing to provide a breath sample.

As of October 9th, he is now facing an additional charge of criminal negligence causing death.

He will be appearing in court tomorrow in Sundridge.

Investigation is continuing under the direction of Detective Inspector Laura Houliston of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB), with the assistance of the North East Region OPP Crime Unit, Regional Support Team (RST), and Forensic Identification Services (FIS).

He was granted bail back in July.
