PARRY SOUND, ON – Conseil Scolaire Public du Nord-Est de l’Ontario is hoping to make use of space at Canadore College’s Parry Sound campus for their new elementary school for a period of two years.
Under terms of Canadore’s interest-free, forgivable mortgage given to Canadore by the town the facility must remain a post-secondary education and training centre and the College’s application to change their zoning may contradict the deal.
The proposed use of Canadore by the French elementary school is opposed by Parry Sound, the Archipelago, McDougall and McKellar.
Council will hold a special meeting on July 16th in Council Chambers to allow for discussion on the proposed change.
A local group of concerned individuals has launched a campaign and website against the proposal.
The reasons behind their opposition and a call for others opposed to the change to attend and or write to Council are posted at the www.saveadulteducation.com.
