Council approves bylaw amendments for new hotel

Parry Sound is on the road to getting a new hotel.

At its most recent meeting council approved a bylaw amendment allowing the proposed hotel to exceed current height limits as well as slightly reduce the size of parking spaces.

Back in April council was made aware that Best Western Hotels was hoping to build on a vacant lot on Pine Drive behind Parry Sound Fuels. At that meeting Oastler Park Shopping Plaza Limited had expressed concerns about the sightline to the Walmart.

To that end, town staff are being directed to bring forward “pole sign approval” through until January 31st 2045 to ease that situation. The proposed hotel would likely be 75 or more rooms and Best Western hopes to break ground later this year.
