Two McDougall men charged after not reporting shooting a black bear

Two McDougall Township men have been fined a total of $1,000 for a bear shooting incident.  One man was fined $500 for failing to report the shooting of a black bear while the other man was fined $500 for making a false statement to a conservation officer after they shot a black bear on May 20th in the Hoddy’s Sideroad area of McDougall.  Charges were brought against the men as a result of MNR officers’ investigation, which involved the ministry’s canine unit and examination of DNA evidence.  The public is reminded that under the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, the shooting of a black bear must be reported to the local MNR office or to the bear reporting line.
