Pair that led OPP on chase for made-up suspect make court appearances

The pair that allegedly led the West Parry Sound OPP on a wild goose chase for a non-existent person was back in court.

On Valentine’s Day this year John Nanibush and Naomi Shawana were arrested by the OPP after leading officers on a chase. When they were arrested the OPP says the accused told them a third person had left the car and fled on foot.

As a precautionary measure McDougall Public School, Parry Sound High School, Parry Sound Public School, and St Peter the Apostle Catholic School were put in to hold and secures. However, it was later revealed the third person wasn’t real.

The Parry Sound North Star is reporting that on May 2nd both of the accused made video court appearances. The court was told Nanibush has hired a lawyer. He’s scheduled to make another appearance on May 16th. Shawana’s next appearance is June 6th.

Nanibush, a 30-year-old man from Penetanguishene was arrested and charged with theft over $5000 of a motor vehicle, possessing property obtained by crime over $5000  in Canada, theft under $5000 – shoplifting, possessing property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada, flight from a peace officer,  dangerous operation, obstruct peace officer, public mischief, and failure to comply with Recognizance.

Shawana, a 31-year-old woman from Sudbury was arrested and charged with theft over $5000 of a car, possessing property obtained by crime over $5000 – in Canada, theft under $5000 – shoplifting, possessing property obtained by crime under $5000 – in Canada, flight from peace officer, dangerous operation, obstruct peace officer, public mischief, fail to comply with recognizance,  and four counts of a failure to comply with probation order.
