Event organizers are getting the chance to make use of some federal money.

The Ontario Highlands Tourism Organization took to Twitter today, to announce that local festivals can make use of up to $200,000 from the Canadian Government.

The money itself is part of the Building Communities Through Arts and Heritage Program. It is designed to give funding to local groups “for recurring festivals that present the work of local artists, artisans or heritage performers.”

Anyone that applies needs to be a local not-for-profit organization or group, a local band or tribal council, or other local aboriginal government.

Some other eligibility requirements include promoting community engagement with events that celebrate and preserve local performing and visual arts or local heritage. AS well, whoever applies will need to have successfully organized the festival in the past within two years their applying.

Successful applicants might be eligible to get 100 per cent of the expenses covered, as long as its under $200,000. Eligible events “present the work of local artists, artisans, or heritage performers,” As well they need to “actively involve members of the local community and
are intended for and accessible to the general public.”

The program has various deadlines. If the event is planned for between September 1st and December 31st, the deadline would be January 31st the year before.

If the event is happening between January 1st and June 31st the deadline is April 30th.

The final deadline is September 30th for an event scheduled between July 1st and August 31st.
