Supervised probation for man who raped Almaguin woman

A Midland man who raped an Almaguin woman has been sentenced to three years of supervised probation.

He’ll also be required to register as a sex offender and will stay on that list for 20 years. The Parry Sound North Star is reporting the man pleaded guilty to sexual assault in Parry Sound Superior Court yesterday. He’s also forbidden from owning a weapon, will have to submit a DNA sample, and stay 50 metres away from the victim at all times.

On January 10th, 2016 the victim, who was dating the man at the time, invited him to her home. The couple was in bed together in the morning when he tried to have sex with her. She said no three times. He didn’t listen.

The sentence was recommended by both the Crown and the defence and supported by the victim. Pleading guilty spared the victim from having to go through a jury trial, something the Crown said she wanted to avoid.
