McGarvey: Discussions coming on $604,110 payment

A surprise payment of just over $600,000 to the Town of Parry Sound is appreciated says its mayor.

Mayor Jamie McGarvey says the money from the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing was a surprise. He says while there is lots that could be done with the $604,110 the ministry is urging municipalities to put it towards things like improving service delivery and technology systems.

“The new money is greatly appreciated,” says McGarvey. But he says no decisions can be made until council sits down and has a discussion.

“Council and our staff will sit down and discuss this,” he says. “We just haven’t had a chance to do that.”

A total of 405 municipalities across the province received various amounts based on their populations. The money went to 26 towns in the Parry Sound-Muskoka area collectively receiving around $12M. The lowest amount was $225,000 with the highest amount over $700,000.
