Youth Ball Hockey tourney buys life-saving equipment

The fun of the 2019 Parry Sound Youth Ball Hockey Tournament could save lives.

The annual event is run by the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation and through the money raised, much needed medical equipment is purchased. This year’s tournament is on Saturday, April 27th at the Kinsmen Park.

Over $116,000 has been raised since the tournament began in 2013.

In 2018 there were 13 teams playing in Novice, Pee Wee and Bantam divisions.

This year the event hopes to raise enough to buy an $18,000 cystoscope, a piece of equipment that provides imaging of the bladder. A seasonal resident has purchased another one, and the tournament had previously provided two.

Other equipment from tournament funds include timing devices for anesthetic machines and supported patient care in diagnostic imaging and the health centre’s lab.
