Pre-election federal budget tabled today; Ontario students to protest post-secondary cuts

Budget to be tabled amid SNC-Lavalin furor

The Trudeau Liberals will try to change the channel today from the SNC-Lavalin affair with its pre-election budget.  Universal pharmacare, jobs and skills retraining and affordable housing are expected to be unpacked in the fiscal plan this afternoon.  The Opposition parties have said they will do everything they can to hold the Liberals to account for the scandal. The federal election is in October.

Post-secondary students to protest Ford government cuts

Students at 13 of Ontario’s colleges and universities will walk out of class tomorrow.  They’ll be protesting the provinces cuts to post-secondary funding.  The Canadian Federation of Students wants the provincial government to reverse its decision to end free tuition for low income students and offer more grants rather than loans.

Shooting suspect behind bars; has first court appearance

The suspect in the Netherlands shooting has fired his lawyer and will represent himself.  The 37-year old Turkish born man was arrested after a massive manhunt.  A gunman killed three others and wounded five others when he opened fire in a tram in the city of Utrecht.
