With municipal elections less than a month away, we asked both candidates for Mayor running in Parry Sound their thoughts on the OPP versus a municipal police force. Current Mayor Jamie McGarvey says the Town of Parry Sound has had good service with the OPP and a municipal force isn’t necessarily cheaper.

Former Mayor Ted Knight is the other candidate for Mayor of the Town of Parry Sound and says it would cost too much to switch to a municipal police force and the OPP do an adequate job as it is now.

McGarvey says the new costing model looks to be a good thing for tax payers in the Town of Parry Sound.

Knight agrees, but would be willing to make the change to see any police force in a different location.

Voters will be voting by telephone and internet this year with pass codes being delivered in the mail this week. To ensure you’re on the voter’s list, contact your local municipal office. Election Day is on October 27th.
