Special Weather Statement: Possible snow squalls and strong winds

Blustery winter weather on tap today.

Strong westerly winds gusting to near 70 km/h are expected to whip up any freshly fallen snow today resulting in sudden very low visibility in blowing snow in some areas. A few wind gusts to 80 km/h are possible near Lake Huron, especially over the Bruce Peninsula. Isolated power outages are possible.

Flurries will give 2 to 5 cm of fresh new snow to most areas, with a few locally higher amounts of 5 to 10 cm possible especially over areas east of Georgian Bay.

Poor winter driving conditions are expected. Untreated roads will become snow covered, icy and slippery. Motorists should allow extra time to reach their destination.

Conditions will slowly improve beginning this evening as winds ease and flurries begin to taper off.
