Community effort is required to get through winter safely

The town is asking the public to pitch-in and remove snow from fire hydrants.

Peter Brown,  Director of Public Works says workers have already begun removing snow from fire hydrants.

“We’re asking the public that they don’t bury fire hydrants by blowing snow on them or by covering them up with snow, because it is against the law. Instead, if residents could help us by clearing snow from hydrants, it would not only help yourself but your neighbours in case there is a fire. We’re also expecting a lot more snow to come so the public’s cooperation will help us do our job,” Brown said.

Brown also urged the public to be patient during snow removal efforts.

“Our trucks are big and take up a lot of space on the road.  Don’t tailgate plows and give them the time and space they need to do their job. These are large pieces of equipment and we want to make sure no one gets hurt,” he added.

The public is also asked to be mindful of snow removal equipment. Steering clear from trucks and being patient rather than trying to get around trucks ensures everyone is safe during snow removal.
