Extreme Arctic chill likely to hang on through Tuesday in Parry Sound

The bitter cold, which kept many residents cooped up inside over the weekend, isn’t going away just yet.

Environment Canada warns the Arctic air mass causing temperatures to dip to the minus 20s, and even lower with the windchill, likely won’t release it’s icy grip on Parry Sound until Tuesday afternoon. While still very chilly, the temperature is expected to start warming up after noon and will likely push above zero just before lunch on Wednesday.

Mother Nature will also be sending another reminder of winter our way with 5 cm of snow or more expected to fall overnight into Wednesday. And, a warmer air mass moving in is likely to bring a messy mix of rain and snow Wednesday afternoon, which could cause some tricky driving conditions on Parry Sound’s roads.

Until the weather warms up, the weather service is warning residents to bundle up and don’t spend too much time outside. In these conditions frost bite can often develop on your exposed skin within minutes.
