Stoned driver charged with impaired

The West Parry Sound OPP charged a man with impaired after finding cannabis in his car.

On January 15th, shortly after 3:00pm, a car approached a RIDE check on Parry Sound Road and an investigation revealed the driver had been using cannabis and the OPP arrested its fifth impaired driver of 2019.

A 51-year-old man from Moose Deer Point First Nation was arrested and charged with impaired operation by alcohol or drugs, and driving a car or boat with cannabis readily available.

The driver is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on February 21st. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and the car he was driving was impounded for seven days.

The OPP reminds drivers that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects that a driver is driving while impaired is urged to call police immediately.
