The Liberal Riding of Parry Sound-Muskoka has started a group specifically targetting women’s issues.

“The Parry Sound-Muskoka Liberal Women’s Commission Club is a voice for  the entire electoral district to advocate policies that promote gender equity, issues of concern to women and intersectionality of privilege based on personal characteristics, and to maximize the potential of women’s representation  in the political realm,” said Parry Sound-Muskoka Liberal Riding Advisor, Nancy Osborne.

The group was inaugurated in November though elected a Chair, Jen Alexis and Vice Chair, Dana Clark of the Liberal Party Women’s Club yesterday evening at the Rosseau Nursing Station.

We’re making sure that we would be able to include the voice of our members all across the riding and that’s always a challenge.  We’re looking at the possibility of making electronic meetings or setting up hubs in various localised areas. We know bringing people together would be difficult and there are people that get left out. We also addressed and identified a number of issues that people felt very strongly about in the community such as sexual violence, not being the least of them, and making sure we reach people in other areas. We’re looking at having a speaker series as a way to kick this off and educate our members and open that up to the public. It’s all in its infancy,” Osborne said.

Former Parry Sound-Muskoka Liberal candidate Trisha Cowie announced at Thursday’s meeting that she will be running again in the upcoming federal election on October 21st.

Osborne says that it’s an incredible climate to be a woman today and encourages all women in the area to use their voices to elicit change in our community.

The next meeting date has not yet been determined though Osborne encourages all ladies in the area who are interested, to reach to her via email at [email protected] or by viting the club’s Facebook page here.
