French language school coming to Parry Sound

Parry Sound will open its first French-language school for the next school year this coming September.

The school will service Parry Sound and the surrounding communities such as The Archipelago, Carling, Magnetawan, McKellar, McMurrich/Monteith, Whitestone, McDougall and Seguin.

Access to French-Language public education is a right and access to a second language keeps children mentally active.

To be eligible for a French-language education, the student must be a child whose parent has French as their first language, a child whose parent has attended a French-language school or a child whose sibling has attended a French-language school.

If a student does not meet the criteria, parents and guardians can proceed with an Admissions Committee.  An assessment will determine if your child understands, speaks, reads and writes French based on age and level of education. The child does not have to be French-speaking but must receive the support and encouragement of their family and the school team to learn the language and adopt the culture.

For all questions related to registration and admission to École élémentaire publique de la région de Parry Sound, please contact Joanne Héroux-Farrow at 705-472-3443 ext. 10279.
