Town asking public to stay off the ice

The Town of Parry Sound is asking the public not to use the Kinsmen Outdoor Rink before it is officially open.

Town staff say they have been preparing the outdoor rink at Kinsmen Park for public use but the rink is not yet open to the public. The outdoor rink is a natural ice surface that requires several consecutive days of subzero temperatures, allowing the ice to be built up in layers.

The town says the process of building the ice is very critical to the quality and lifespan of the ice through the winter.

Town staff is asking the public, as skating on the ice prior to completion will negatively affect the quality of the finished ice and delay the official opening.

In the meantime, people who wish to skate are encouraged to take advantage of public skating at the Bobby Orr Community Centre. More information on public skating, including times, can be found here.
