Rosseau mom spends Christmas away from family

A Rosseau woman has been diagnosed with a rare disease and will spend Christmas away from her family.

Kasia Kinder was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia last December and has been receiving blood transfusions two to three times per week in order to survive.

Aplastic Anemia is caused when the bone marrow and the stem cells that become blood cells are damaged. This results in a deficiency of all three blood cell types: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets.

After numerous treatments, she now has a bone marrow donor though it is not a 100% match.

The Transplant is planned for December 20th. This procedure is considered high-risk for Kasia as she continues to fight a fungal infection.

Her chemotherapy treatment begins this Friday followed by the marrow transplant on December 20th. Afterward, Kasia must be quarantined for 21 days. She will then be allowed limited visitation for 30 days followed by another 30 days at a recovery lodge.

The Kinder family says they have endured financial hardships with not being able to work, constant travel and medical costs.

Kasia’s friends and employer at The Dentistry On The Bay have created a GoFundMe to gather donations to help their friend and her family through this hardship.

Dentistry On The Bay says they will also gather donations for Kasia at their office at 61 Bowes Street.
